Justin Tubb

Justin Tubb was only nine years old when he made his first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry; he became a member when he was twenty. The oldest son of Country legend, Ernest Tubb, Justin was a completely different animal. His voice was smooth and accurate where his father's was definitely rough around the edges. Justin Tubb was signed to Decca, same label as his daddy, and in 1954 scored a Top Five hit with "Looking Back To See." His recording career kind of dawdled from there until his 1963 solo hit, "Take A Letter Miss Gray." Over the next couple of decades Justin Tubb continued to record, tour and appear on the Opry, but he never again hit the heights as a recording artist though the talent was obviously there. Justin Tubb did have considerable success as a songwriter, notably with "Lonesome 7-7203" (Hawkshaw Hawkins), "Walkin' Talkin' Cryin' Barely Beatin' Broken Heart" (Johnny Wright, Highway 101), and "Imagine That" (Patsy Cline).
