Tommy Spencer was 10 when he promised his dying father that he'd stay away from fighting. Tommy's Uncle Matthew (Kenny Rogers), a local preacher and lumberman who faces daily temptations in trying to be a good role model, looks after Tommy as he comes of age. Tommy falls in love with the town beauty, Becky, and they become engaged. But when Becky's former suitor Jimmy Joe returns from basic training, he's enraged to have been rejected and abuses her. Now Tommy must decide whether to honor his father's last wish or defend the honor of his beloved Becky and seek bloody revenge on the town bully.
