Bashful Brother Oswald Biography |
|
Bashful Brother Oswald (Beecher Kirby) was a special figure in Country music history. A fine dobro player with a distinctive style, Bashful Brother Oswald was an important part of Roy Acuff's Smoky Mountain Boys for more than fifty years. During that time Bashful Brother Oswald played on hundreds of Grand Ole Opry shows as Acuff's dobro player and comic character, but it wasn't until more than two years after Roy Acuff's death that Bashful Brother Oswald, as he was commonly called, was himself inducted into the Opry. His Hawaiian guitar-influenced recordings are available on the Rounder label. They will remind you of a time when you heard his memorable licks cutting through the late night airwaves over clear channel WSM-AM.
