Benny Martin Biography |
|
| There was a time when folks knew who the great fiddle players were, and one of the great ones was Benny Martin out of Sparta, Tennessee. Benny Martin played on the road with Bill Monroe, Roy Acuff and Flatt and Scruggs. He played on a number of Flatt and Scruggs recordings, and in the early 50s recorded a couple of vocal records for MGM. In 1954 Benny Martin hit the road with the Kitty Wells/ Johnnie and Jack show. Over the next few years Benny Martin recorded for Mercury, RCA and Decca. Finally in 1966, recording for Starday, Benny Martin hit the Top Thirty in Billboard with a song called "Rosebuds And You." Although he never became a big recording star, Benny Martin remains one of Country's great talents, not only a virtuoso fiddle player but a master of many instruments that he played in sessions and on the road.
