Bill Gaither Biography |
|
If there is one person that has single-handedly save the popularity of Souther Gospel Music, it is Bill Gaither. Gaither was born on March 28, 1931, in Alexandria, Indiana. Throughout his whole life, Bill's forte has been writing gospel music. Ever since after quitting his teaching job in 1962, He and his wife Gloria have been penning gospel music standards such as: "He Touched Me," "There's Something About that Name," "Because He Lives," "Something Beautiful," "It is Finished," "The King is Coming," and "The Longer I Serve Him." Not only were these instant classics in gospel music, but churches have adopted these songs and added them to their worship service. These songs were first recorded through the group, the Bill Gaither Trio. It first was made up of Bill, his brother Danny, and his sister Mary Ann. However, when Mary Ann stepped down in 1962, Gloria filled the position. The voicing of the group consisted of Gloria singing the top harmony part(obviously), Danny singing lead, and Bill singing baritone or a high bass part. The trio had a long tenure of about 30 years. They eventually disbanded in the 1980's, and that is when Bill Gaither started his uber- successful group The Gaither Vocal Band. But that is another story.
