Billy "Crash" Craddock Biography |
|
In the early 1970s Country music was growing so fast that many new Country stations were old pop stations with staffs left over from the stations' pop days. Country artists discovered that they could get airplay on these stations if they recorded country versions of pop hits. Perhaps no Country artist enjoyed more success covering pop songs than Billy "Crash" Craddock. From 1971 through 1977 Billy "Crash" Craddock had 17 Top Ten singles on the little Cartwheel record label including great covers of the pop classics "Knock Three Times," "Dream Lover," and "Ruby Baby." Billy "Crash" Craddock then continued with a string of originals written by some of Nashville's most commercial songwriters. Fans were attracted by Billy "Crash" Craddock's jump-suited, slicked back Elvis look and his tremendous onstage energy.
