Billy Joe Royal Biography
Over the years a number of pop artists who felt their pop careers wither have attempted to move over to Country where they thought older fans might accept them. Most of these attempts failed. One artist who was successful was Billy Joe Royal, who hit it big during the 60s with "Down In The Boondocks" and other pop hits. In the mid-80s Billy Joe Royal signed with Atlantic Records in Nashville and had a string of Top Ten records that included "Burned Like A Rocket," "Tell It Like It Is," and "Till I Can't Take It Anymore." During this period Billy Joe Royal's albums were selling well and helped to establish Atlantic as a serious player on the Country scene.
