Billy Walker Biography |
|
As a youngster on the Big D Jamboree in Dallas, Billy Walker performed in a Lone Ranger mask, but he was destined for better. In 1949 Billy Walker got his first record deal, with Capitol, and less than two years later moved over to Columbia. He performed on the Louisiana Hayride and Ozark Jubilee before finally settling in with the Grand Ole Opry in 1959. In the 60s and 70's Billy Walker had a long succession of chart records with Columbia and Monument including more than a dozen Top Tens. Some of his biggest hits were "Charlie's Shoes" (#1 in 1962), "Cross The Brazos At Waco" (#2 in '64), and "When A Man Loves A Woman (The Way I Love You)" (#3 in 1970). After all these years Billy Walker remains a favorite on the Opry.
