Bob Wills Biography |
|
| Back in the 30s and 40s a hip, infectious breed of dance music appeared on the scene that merged the traditions of western music with the newly emerging big band swing music that was sweeping the country, not to mention strong elements of blues and jazz. The result was western swing and the most popular western swing bandleader, by far, was Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys. The band's best known hits include "San Antonio Rose," "Take Me Back To Tulsa," "Maiden's Prayer" and the unforgettable "Faded Love." Wills was a fiddler, but what people remember best about him was his signature high tenor "Ahaa!" as he would lead his band through their diverse repertoire of dance tunes. From the 30s into the 50s, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys easily ranked among the most popular dance bands in America. Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys Discography |
