Brenda Lee Biography |
|
Although Brenda Lee's producer was Owen Bradley, producer of Patsy Cline's big hits and head of Decca Records' Country division, and although her early hits were recorded in Nashville using Nashville studios and musicians, none of them, NOT ONE, appeared on Billboard's Country singles charts. Not "Sweet Nothin's," #4 on the pop charts in 1959, not "I'm Sorry," #1 soon after "Sweet Nothin's," not "I Want To Be Wanted," "Fool #1," "Break It To Me Gently," or "All Alone Am I," all Top Five records between 1960 and 1962. From 1960 through 1973 Brenda Lee had fifty singles on the pop charts. But it wasn't until 1973 that Brenda Lee finally had her first Top Ten Country hit with "Nobody Wins." Eventually she carved out a memorable Country career, and today Brenda Lee's pop records blend in quite nicely with the Country sounds of the past twenty years. Born Brenda Mae Tarpley, Brenda Lee is one of the great voices in the history of pop and Country music.
