Burl Ives Biography |
|
Country music began as genuine American folk music. Eventually folk music began to operate on certain political and social assumptions. Occasionally an artist arrives who combines Country and folk traditions. One of the greatest was Burl Ives, who dropped out of college just before the Depression to wander around the country, playing and singing here and there as folk singers have traditionally done. Eventually Burl Ives became a star of the genre, but he reached his greatest recording success in the 60s recording Nashville songs in Nashville studios. Songs like "A Little Bitty Tear," "Funny Way Of Laughin'," and "Call Me Mr. In-Between." These songs were not only Top Ten Country hits, they crossed over into the pop charts and made Burl Ives one of the best-selling folk singers of his time.
