Carl Perkins Biography |
|
Carl Perkins was an early rockabilly star, writer and singer of the great classics "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Boppin The Blues." He was a fine guitar player and a dynamic entertainer, but Carl Perkins' career on Sun Records seemed overshadowed first by Elvis then by Jerry Lee Lewis. Carl Perkins never recaptured his early recording success but he had a great career nevertheless. He moved back to his Country roots with several major record deals that did not yield hits, but The Beatles recorded several of his songs, he toured with the Johnny Cash show for many years, and he wrote the Cash classic, "Daddy Sang Bass." Many later rock idols looked to Carl Perkins for musical inspiration, and although he died in 1998, he holds a secure place in the history of American popular music.
