Carter Family Biography |
|
Between 1927 and 1941 the Carter Family recorded more than 350 songs, some written by A.P. Carter, some revised by A.P. Carter and many collected by A.P. Carter in the course of his journeys. The Carter Family consisted of A.P., his wife Sara, and his sister-in-law Maybelle. Noted Carter Family recordings include their theme song, "Keep On The Sunny Side," "Wildwood Flower," and "I'm Thinking Tonight Of My Blue Eyes." The Carter Family was first recorded by Ralph Peer in Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee, in a series of sessions that are considered by many to be the birth of the Country music genre. The Carter Family, reconstituted to include second-generation Carters, enjoyed later success as part of the Johnny Cash traveling show in the '60s and '70s.
