There has only been one major African American country star and his name is Charley Pride. For nearly a quarter of a century starting in 1966, Charley Pride released hit after hit, capitalizing on the undeniably pure country baritone vocals. Charley was signed by RCA in 1965 and the following year released his first top 10 hit, "Just Between You And Me." In 1969 he had his first number 1 single, "All I Have To Offer You (Is Me)," and over the next two decades he had 28 more number 1s, including "Kiss An Angel Good Morning," "Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone," "I'm Just Me," and "Wonder Could I Live There Anymore." Charley Pride is a two-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year and one-time Entertainer of the Year.
