Charlie Walker Biography

A surprising number of Country artists were disc jockeys before they were stars. One such was Texan Charlie Walker who recorded for Imperial, Decca and Mercury before his 1958 #1 smash hit on Columbia, "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down." Other Top Ten hits for Charlie included 1965's "Wild As A Wildcat" and 1967's "Please Don't Squeeze My Sharmon." Both songs were released on the Columbia subsidiary Epic Records. Charlie Walker joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1959 and has been a regular ever since.
