Cowboy Copas Biography |
|
A little bit honky tonk, a little bit country crooner, Cowboy Copas hit it big right after the World War II with his top 5 version of "Filipino Baby" on Cincinnati's King label. The hits petered out in the early 50s but he came back strong in 1960 with a number 1 smash, "Alabam." Over the next three years Cowboy Copas had a number of records that made or almost made top 10. On March 3, 1963 Cowboy Copas died in the airplane crash that killed Patsy Cline and Hawkshaw Hawkins. Cowboy Copas' last single, fittingly, was "Goodbye Kisses,' which he wrote with Lefty Frizzell. Grant Turner dubbed Cowboy Copas "The Waltz King of the Grand Ole Opry." Cowboy Copas Discography |
