David Houston Biography |
|
Many people have forgotten about David Houston, but through the '60s and early '70s, he was one of the most consistent and successful Country recording artists. In 1963 David Houston debuted on Epic with a cover of the pop hit, "Mountain Of Love," that climbed to the #3 slot on the Billboard Country singles chart. Two years later David Houston hit with another #3 record, "Livin' In A House Full Of Love." In 1966 he recorded one of the great Country hits, "Almost Persuaded," which not only was his first #1 record, it crossed over to the pop charts, won two Grammies, and powered a streak of Top Ten records that lasted through 1972, including six genuine #1 country hits. David Houston also recorded major duet hits with Tammy Wynette ("My Elusive Dreams") and After Closing Time" and "I Love You, I Love You.") By the mid-'70s, David Houston's best years as a recording artist were behind him, but when he died in 1993, he left behind some of the finest Country records ever made.
