Dwight Yoakam Biography

Many of Country's greatest stars become stars because they do it their own way. Dwight Yoakam is definitely one of these. Kentucky-born, Ohio-raised, he came to Nashville in 1974 and got nowhere so three years later he moved out to L.A. and found the brass ring. After a brief stint on Oak Records he signed with the Warner Brothers imprint Reprise and his first album, "Guitars, Cadillacs, etc.," was released in 1986 and earned him plenty of hits and awards. Over the next few years Dwight Yoakam's singles, a tasty mix of old hits and originals, made regular visits to the top of the charts, songs like "Honky Tonk Man," "Little Sister," "Little Ways," "Always Late With Your Kisses," "Streets Of Bakersfield" and "I Sang Dixie." Dwight Yoakam's style was rockabilly meets honky-tonk traditional. The folks loved it, and they still do.
