Tennessee native, Eddy Arnold (Richard Edward Arnold) was born on May 15, 1918 in Henderson, TN. Eddy was raised on a farm until, after his father's death when Eddy was eleven, the family farm had to be sold at an auction. Eddy began singing at anyplace that would take him and landed his first big gig in 1940 with the help of Pee Wee King who hired him as one of the Golden West Cowboys. He was soon heard over the airwaves while performing for the famed Grand Ole Opry. In 1943, he landed his own radio spot on WSM and used "Cattle Call" as his theme song. Soon after, Eddy landed hit record after hit record totaling six number ones between November 1947 and January 1949. His crooner style of country was soon to become the new wave in Nashville, which he would comfortably ride for years. In 1948, he held six top ten songs on the Country charts at the same time. Eddy Arnold was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966 and became a true legend in the softer side of Country music. Sadly, Eddy Arnold passed away on May 8, 2008 at the age of 89. His lasting legacy and impact on country music will forever be felt.
