Emmylou Harris Biography

Few major stars have had the kind of lasting impact on popular contemporary music than Emmylou Harris. In 1969, Emmylou Harris married songwriter Tom Slocum before the release of her debut LP, Gliding Bird, in 1970. In 1976, Emmylou Harris released her second LP, Elite Hotel, with a new backing band called the Hot Band. The Hot Band consisted of Elvis Presley sideman James Burton, Glen Hardin, and Rodney Crowell (later replaced by Ricky Skaggs). Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band released a live album called Last Date, which was taken from their vocal version of Floyd Cramer's instrumental "(Lost His Love) On Our Last Date." At the time of Emmylou's 1986 release, Thirteen, and her '87 follow-up, Angel Band, she was also serving as the President of the Country Music Foundation. Emmylou Harris continues to record great music, and her live concerts still pack 'em in like they did twenty-five years ago.
