Ferlin Husky Biography

One of the pioneers of the fifties crossover era was Ferlin Husky, a Missouri-born Country crooner with a very expressive, powerful vocal delivery. Ferlin Husky received his first crossover chart success in "A Dear John Letter," a duet he recorded with Jean Shepard back in 1953. The record was a #1 country smash and made its way to the #4 spot on the pop charts, but Ferlin did not get a credit on the label when the record was released. In 1955 Ferlin Husky began charting regularly, and nearly two years later he released his career record, "Gone," which hit the top of the country charts and also made it to #4 on the pop charts. Some Country experts cite the dramatic vocal arrangements of "Gone" as an indication that the record was a pioneering example of what would be known as the "Nashville sound." Ferlin Husky's follow-up to "Gone," "A Fallen Star," was Top Ten and also received considerable pop airplay.
