Floyd Cramer Biography

There were lots of guitar pickers but few session banjo players in Nashville when Floyd Cramer arrived in 1952. He was soon getting quite a bit of session work, and in 1958 he heard a demo of "Please Help Me I'm Falling," written by Don Robertson, who also played piano on the demo. Don used a technique of sliding from one note to another that Floyd Cramer liked, so he began to use that technique himself. His buddy Chet Atkins suggested that Floyd write a tune that could feature that style. The result was "Last Date," which became a huge pop hit for Floyd. More hits followed, including "On The Rebound," and a tasty rendition of "San Antonio Rose." These hits kicked off a satisfying career of instrumental albums and concerts for Floyd Cramer.
