Guy Mitchell Biography |
|
Guy Mitchell was never really known as a Country singer. In the early and mid '50s he had a slew of pop hits with songs like "My Truly Truly Fair" and "My Heart Cries For You." Yet many of the songs Guy Mitchell recorded were Country-like in their emotion, and eventually the A & R head at Columbia Records, Mitch Miller, started throwing Country hits Guy's way. Thus when Marty Robbins recorded "Singin' The Blues," Guy Mitchell did a pop cover of the same song. Marty cut "Knee Deep In The Blues," and so did Guy Mitchell. He also had a huge pop hit on Harlan Howard's great song, "Heartaches By The Number." Just as R & B fans resented Pat Boone's pop covers of rhythm and blues hits, some Country fans resented Guy Mitchell's pop covers of Country hits. In the end these covers helped to spread the popularity of Country music and made huge amounts of money for Country songwriters who were accustomed to small royalty checks on their songs. br>Guy Mitchell Discography |
