In the 1980's, Country music received the "Country Band" with arms outstretched. Highway 101 was part of this explosion of full bands that ruled the airwaves with Alabama, Restless Heart and more. Highway 101 also brought a country-rock crossover sound that helped pave the way for the crossover artists of the 90's. Minnesota native, Paulette Carlson fronted the group that formed in 1986. Chuck Morris, manager, brought in several session pros from the area: Jack Daniels, Cactus Moser and Curtis Stone. They released their debut album in 1987 after signing to Warner Bros. and it proved quite successful. Two of the four singles, "Somewhere Tonight" and "Cry, Cry, Cry" made it to number one, while the other two, ",a href="/product/GREATEST-HITS-HIGHWAY/highway-101>The Bed You Made for Me" and "Whiskey, If You Were a Woman" were still top five singles. Carlson left the band after their third release, Paint the Town, to start a solo career. The band did not stay as successful, but have maintained some version of the group for several years. br>Highway 101 Discography |
