Hoyt Axton projected the persona and easy styling of a Country singer, but he was known primarily as the writer of some very big pop hits. The Oklahoma-born son of Mae Boren Axton, who wrote "Heartbreak Hotel," Hoyt Axton broke through in the early 60s with "Greenback Dollar," a huge hit for the Kingston Trio. Other hits included "Joy To The World" and "Never Been To Spain." In the 70s he finally got some recognition as a recording artist, most notably with his 1974 Top Ten hit, "Boney Fingers." Hoyt Axton spent most of his career out on the west coast and eventually carved out a nice niche in film with choice roles in movies like "Gremlins" and "The Black Stallion," and appearances on TV shows such as "WKRP." br>Hoyt Axton Discography
