Hylo Brown Biography

Think bluegrass and you think of that high lonesome sound. And Hylo Brown could do it as well as anybody, hence his nickname (Hylo Brown's real name was Frank). In the '50s he recorded for Capitol, and like most acoustic acts he didn't burn up the charts. But Hylo Brown worked the road for years with folks like Flatt and Scruggs and his own band, The Timberliners. Wherever he went he took with him his stunning singing range, and the folks loved him. In 1959 Hylo Brown and his band wowed 'em at the Newport Folk Festival while backing Earl Scruggs. Over the next decade he cut ten albums for the Starday and Rural Rhythm labels. These albums are still prized by Bluegrass fans.
