Jim Nabors Biography

When most people think of Jim Nabors (b. 6-12-32 Sylacauga, AL), one thing rings out: Gomer Pyle! Initially hired back in 1963 for a guest appearance on an episode of the Andy Griffith Show, Jim's goofy hayseed, Gomer, was an instant hit with the audience, and he was quickly added as a regular for the next two seasons. Jim Nabors earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He then apprenticed for a television station while pursuing a career as a cabaret singer. Along came the Andy Griffith Show, followed two years later by his own spin-off series, "Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C." The success of Gomer Pyle afforded Jim the opportunity to pursue his passion for singing, and he displayed his remarkable baritone voice as a guest star on the Danny Kaye Show in 1964. Jim's voice was heard on dozens of albums, including gospel and country. From 1969 through 1972, Jim Nabors had his own variety show, "The Jim Nabors Show," and he also performed regularly in concert during the production, "The Man of La Mancha." Jim remains an active performer today.
