Jim Reeves Biography

Most Country records are marked by a considerable amount of emotion and a moderate helping of vocal gimmickry. Jim Reeves sang a song straight, with precise phrasing. But the tone of his voice was so pleasing and true that millions of listeners were drawn to him. Strangely, Jim Reeves' hit-making career started with a pair of novelty songs, "Mexican Joe" and "Bimbo." They got him going in 1953, but 1957 was the year all of America discovered gentleman Jim Reeves on the strength of the timeless crossover, "Four Walls." In 1960, "He'll Have To Go" became one of the biggest Country crossover hits ever. In 1964 Jim Reeves died in a plane crash, but he had a deep unreleased catalog and RCA kept putting out Jim Reeves singles. He had two #1's in 1965, two more in 1966 and yet another in 1967. Many believe that Jim Reeves was Country's greatest voice. He certainly is easy on the ears.
