Jimmy Martin Biography |
|
Bill Monroe is not only called the Father of Bluegrass because he started the genre. Over the years dozens of great musicians performed in his band and learned from him. Jimmy Martin was lead singer with the Bluegrass Boys in the early 50s. He also worked with the Osborne Brothers, and like many Country performers in those days, he worked in radio in Cincinnati, Bristol, Detroit, Shreveport and Wheeling. The heart of Jimmy Martin's career was the nearly two decades he recorded for Decca. Although his records rarely found their way onto the Billboard Country singles charts, he is credited with having recorded 139 sides for the label, so obviously he was popular enough without the radio airplay to be a profitable seller for the label. A number of Jimmy Martin's recordings are considered bluegrass standards, and most ardent bluegrass collectors consider their collections incomplete without at least some Jimmy Martin. br>Jimmy Martin Discography |
