Johnnie and Jack Biography |
|
Johnnie and Jack (Johnnie Wright and Jack Anglin) were an undeniably Country duo that in their quest for hits often injected some very uncountry sounds into their records. The result was a whole lot of success during the '50s. In 1949 Johnnie and Jack, which had already been regulars on both the Grand Ole Opry and the Louisiana Hayride, signed with RCA. Their first Top Five hit came in 1951 with a song called "Poison Love," a song spiced up with a Latin beat. In 1954 Johnnie and Jack had a pair of Top Five records with "Oh Baby Mine (I Get So Lonely)" and "Goodnight Sweetheart, Goodnight" – both covers of rhythm and blues crossover hits. Johnnie and Jack continued to record and tour together until Jack Anglin was killed in an automobile accident on his way to the funeral for Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Randy Hughes. Johnnie Wright continued to tour with his wife, Kitty Wells, and in 1965 scored a #1 solo hit with "Hello Vietnam." br>Johhnie & Jack Discography |
