Keith Whitley Biography

Keith Whitley's early career was associated with Ricky Skaggs and Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys. Over the years he moved away from Bluegrass toward mainstream country, and in 1984 he moved to Nashville just in time for a major country revival. He soon signed with RCA and slowly began to click, with hits like "Miami, My Amy," and later the major number 1 smash, "Don't Close Your Eyes." Other big Keith Whitley hits included, "I'm No Stranger To The Rain" and "I Wonder Do You Think Of Me." His tragic death from alcohol poisoning in 1989 at the age of 33 was a terrible blow to his fans and the country music community.
