Kitty Wells Biography |
|
Back in 1952 Kitty Wells thought she was going to retire from performing and spend the next couple of decades as a housewife raising a family. But Kitty Wells' husband, Johnny Wright, of the country duo Johnny and Jack, had different ideas. Johnny wanted a female singing star in his act so he went to Paul Cohen , of Decca Records' country division, and got Paul to sign Kitty. Her first single, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," was a #1 smash. For many years thereafter Kitty Wells was the only true female star in country music. Her sincere and straightforward singing style kept her on the charts for many years, and she was a strong influence on Loretta Lynn. After Kitty Wells' debut record on Decca, Kitty continued to tour with her family for fifty years before finally retiring. br>Kitty Wells Discography |
