Leroy Van Dyke Biography |
|
Missouri born auctioneer turned country singer, Leroy Van Dyke, had three major hit singles early in his recording career, and though he never had another top ten record, these hits and his showmanship combined to keep him touring profitably for many years. The first major hit was "The Auctioneer," released in 1956, which led to the movie What Am I Bid in which Leroy starred as himself, an auctioneer. "Walk On By,"(1961) was a number 1 country hit that stayed on the charts for 37 weeks, and "If A Woman Answers," climbed to number 3 on the country charts in 1962. All three of these records enjoyed considerable success on the pop charts too. In the course of his career Leroy Van Dyke recorded for Dot, Mercury, Warner Bros., Kapp and Decca. br>Leroy Van Dyke Discography |
