Teaser from the Cover Story:
Roy Acuff's list of accomplishments could go on for days. He helped bring country music to the city and world of big business. In his heyday, which essentially spans the 1940s right up to the 1990s, Acuff was the best-known figure in country music. He was elected the first living member of the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1962. But for all this, Acuff is probably best remembered as the shining light of the Grand Ole Opry. The Opry made him a star, but Roy made the Opry a national institution. Even to an admitted non-fan, you could say the words "Grand Ole Opry" and the first association would be Roy Acuff. It took years to get to that point, however.
