Mel Tillis achieved an enormous reputation as a hit songwriter in the 50s and 60s before signing with Kapp Records in 1965 and moving forward as a recording star. In the 50s, Webb Pierce signed Tillis to his Cedarwood publishing company and scored major hits with Tillis's "Honky Tonk Song," "I Ain't Never" and others. Mel's first top 10 hit as a recording artist, "Who's Julie," came in 1968. Subsequent record deals with MGM and Elektra led to huge country hits like "I Ain't Never," his first number 1, "Good Woman Blues," "Heart Healer," and "Coca Cola Cowboy." In the 70s and 80s Mel Tillis appeared in a number of movies both for the big and small screens, and continued his career as a touring country singer. br>Mel Tillis Discography |
