Mickey Gilley Biography

Mickey Gilley, a close cousin of Jerry Lee Lewis, became one of the biggest stars of the Urban Cowboy craze that swept the country in the late 70s. In 1970, during the middle of a so-so recording career, Gilley and an associate started a now legendary nightclub called Gilley's in Pasadena, Texas that became a huge success and led to a record deal with Playboy Records. In 1974 Gilley had his first number #1 for Playboy, "Room Full Of Roses," and over the next decade he scored 16 more number #1s. His hits included, "I Overlooked An Orchid (While Searching For A Rose)," "Don't The Girls All Get Prettier At Closing Time," "True Love Ways," and "Stand By Me."
