Star of the Grand Ole Opry in the '40s, '50, '60, '70s, '80s and beyond, Minnie Pearl (born Sarah Cannon) was raised around Centerville, Tennessee, south of Nashville, received a good education for the times, and became one of the Opry's biggest stars by playing the love-starved country girl with the price tag still hanging from her straw hat. On the Opry Minnie Pearl was loved for her comedy routines with Rod Brasfield and Roy Acuff. In later years she did monologues. "I asked this gentleman, 'Did you just give me a funny look?' and he says, 'Lady, you've got a funny look, but I didn't give it to you.'" Minnie Pearl was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1975. br>Minnie Pearl Discography
