Moon Mullican Biography

The instrument of choice for most Country stars is the guitar. Moon Mullican played honky tonk piano laced with jazz, blues and boogie. In the forties and early fifties he had a succession of hits and near-hits on King Records including "New Jole Blon," "Sweeter Than The Flowers," "I'll Sail My Ship Alone," and "Cherokee Boogie." In 1951 Hank Williams brought Moon Mullican with him to the Grand Ole Opry. It is said that Moon co-wrote "Jambalaya" with Hank but, if so, Moon received no credit for the collaboration. Some think of Moon Mullican as a predecessor to Jerry Lee Lewis.
