Oak Ridge Boys Biography

After many years of unquestioned supremacy, the Statler Brothers finally got some real vocal group competition when the Oak Ridge Boys moved over from gospel to secular country music. For a decade beginning in the late 70s the Oak Ridge Boys registered hit after hit, starting with "Y'all Come Back Saloon" in 1977 and including classics like "Elvira," "Bobby Sue," "I'll Be True To You," "American Made," and "Tryin' To Love Two Women." During their long period of hit making, their vocal style was more energetic than precise, and thoroughly entertaining.
