Porter Wagoner Biography

The Thin Man From West Plains, Porter Wagoner, entertained country fans for more than a half century and is considered by many to be one of the greatest Grand Ole Opry legends. He signed with RCA in 1952 and over the next three decades had such classic country hits as "Misery Loves Company," "Green, Green Grass Of Home," "Skid Row Joe," "The Cold Hard Facts Of Life," and "The Carroll Country Accident".

For many years The Porter Wagoner Show was the most popular of all the syndicated country TV shows, and in 1967, when he chose Dolly Parton to be his new singing partner on the show, he moved his career to a new level. He and Dolly were soon among country's top duets with hits like "Just Someone I Used To Know" and "Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man". Porter also produced many of Dolly's early hits.

On October 15, 2007, Porter was admitted to a Nashville, TN hospital having been diagnosed with lung cancer. Unfortunately Porter passed away just a short while later on October 28, 2007 at the age of 80. Porter's music touched the lives of country music fans all over the world and his legacy will be remembered as people continue to enjoy his music for many years to come.
