Roger Miller Biography |
|
Perhaps the most distinctive Country songwriter ever, also a fine singer, guitarist, comedian, raconteur and actor, Roger Miller came to Nashville in the mid-fifties, wrote some solid Country hits and had several Country record deals before he signed with Smash, a Mercury label known for pop. There he cut an album full of the oddest songs ever to captivate a nation. Two years as a huge pop recording star followed for Roger Miller, featuring hits like "Dang Me," "Chug-a-Lug," "Engine, Engine Number 9," and the immortal, "King Of The Road." These records also established Roger Miller as a major Country star. The hits garnered him eleven Grammies in 1965 and '66. In later years his records introduced some magnificent new songs to the world, including the Kristofferson classic, "Me And Bobby McGee." Roger Miller capped his career in the mid-80s when he wrote the songs for the award-winning Broadway show "Big River." br>Roger Miller Discography |
