Early on Roy Acuff earned the title "King Of Country Music," and for more than five decades he was the one singer most identified with the Grand Ole Opry. Roy Acuff will forever be identified with the Country standards "Great Speckled Bird," "Wabash Cannonball," and "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain." That last song was written by Fred Rose, who in 1942 would join forces with Acuff to create Nashville's first great music publishing company, "Acuff-Rose Publications." Roy Acuff's traditional Appalachian sound remained popular with Opry fans long after it went out of fashion as a commercial music genre.
