Roy Rogers Biography |
|
In the '30s Leonard Franklin Slye was a founding member of the Sons of the Pioneers, which became the definitive Western singing group, most notably with member Bob Nolan's great songs such as "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water." Slye missed out on most of the group's success because in 1937, as Roy Rogers, he began the movie career that was to make him America's #1 cowboy star. In the early '50s Roy Rogers and his wife Dale Evans made a successful transition from movies to TV and continued their success. In 1980 Roy became a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers. Nine years later he was selected to the Hall again, this time on his own. br>Roy Rogers Discography |
