Ssgt. Barry Sadler had one of the biggest patriotic hits of the 60s with "Ballad Of The Green Berets," a song about the men of the U.S. Army Special Forces. As a Green Beret, Sadler lived an adventurous life and he had a strong belief in the greatness of the America that he served so well. A veteran of the war in Viet Nam and a highly decorated soldier, Sgt. Sadler wrote his songs from firsthand experience, songs that do not protest the war efforts like other songs of its day, but praises America's Green Berets, an elite group of soldiers trained to perform above and beyond the scope of normal soldiers. Sgt. Sadler was actively serving his country in Viet Nam until he fell into a mantrap where a poisoned spear injured his leg. Upon his return to the US where he would recover from surgery, he began a short but productive recording career. While in Guatemala in 1989, Sadler was viciously attacked for reasons unknown, and later died in a Nashville hospital. br>SSgt. Barry Sadler Discography
