Stonewall Jackson Biography

The folks at the Grand Ole Opry liked Stonewall Jackson so much back in 1957 that they made him a cast regular before anybody had even heard of him. It wasn't long before Stonewall Jackson had a record deal with Columbia, and his first single, "Life To Go," shot up to the #2 slot on the Billboard Country singles chart. His next release, "Waterloo," did much better. It was a #1 Country smash that crossed over and became a Top Five pop record. With a start like that it wasn't surprising that Stonewall Jackson's Columbia deal lasted fifteen years and more than forty chart records, including eleven Top Ten hits. In 1973 he moved over to MGM Records. Over the years Stonewall Jackson recorded for a number of other labels and continued to perform on the Grand Ole Opry.
