Sue Thompson Biography

People don't remember, but in the early 60s a lot of pop hits were recorded in Nashville. Today we think of singers like the Everly Brothers and Brenda Lee as Country artists, but in those days they were powerful forces on the pop charts. Another was Sue Thompson (born Eva Sue McKee), who recorded for little Hickory Records, the label owned by Nashville's Acuff Rose publishing company. From 1961 to 1965 Sue Thompson had three Top Five pop hits with "Sad Movies," "Norman," and "Paper Tiger." Though she sang with a child-like voice, she was in her mid-twenties at the time of her hits. After her pop career faded, Sue Thompson returned to her Country roots and recorded several duets with Hickory label-mate Don Gibson.
