Uncle Dave Macon Biography

In today's world of CDs and satellite radio, it is really easy to forget the real roots of Country music. Uncle Dave Macon IS the real roots of Country music. Raised in rural middle Tennessee, Uncle Dave Macon's parents later managed a hotel in Nashville. There, young Dave met Vaudevillians and longed to be like them. Uncle Dave Macon learned to play the banjo and started collecting songs - all kinds of songs - from late 19th Century tin pan alley to traditional mountain tunes. In Uncle Dave Macon's middle years he started traveling the vaudeville circuit. Then when the Opry began he was one of its earliest performers and soon became a fan favorite. Uncle Dave Macon continued to play the Opry until his death in 1952. Consider it a privilege to hear Uncle Dave Macon's recorded music and remember that he sang the songs he enjoyed, no matter where they came from.
