Waylon Jennings Biography

Waylon Jennings was one of the most identifiable and soulful country stars of his era. At the start of his career he was associated with Buddy Holly, then gained a huge following in Phoenix before being discovered by Bobby Bare and signed by RCA via Chet Atkins in the mid-1960s. Early hits like "The Chokin' Kind" and "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line," presented a talented artist with a unique, emotional style. In the early 70s, Waylon fought RCA record executives, wresting total artistic control over his recording efforts. Waylon assumed production duties on his recordings, many of which were made in Tompall Glaser's famous "Hillbilly Central" studio on music row. Waylon also gave production duties to "Cowboy Jack Clement" and cut a groundbreaking album, Honky Tonk Heroes comprised of songs written by a then unknown Billy Joe Shaver. After his key role in the huge-selling album "Wanted! The Outlaws," Waylon's sales skyrocketed, with hits like his classic duets with Willie, "Good-Hearted Woman" and "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys," and solo performances of "Luckenbach Texas (Back To The Basics Of Life)," "The Wurlitzaer Prize (I Don't Wanna Get over You)." "I've Always Been Crazy," "Amanda," and others.
