Wilf Carter - Montana Slim Biography

Wilf Carter worked in radio in western Canada during the 30s and began a fifty-year relationship with RCA Victor in Canada. He took the name Montana Slim for his American appearances and Americans, like Canadian, were drawn to him by his yodeling skills. Wilf Carter wrote more than five hundred songs, many of them cowboy songs that reflected real cowboy traditions as opposed to the more modern, romanticized Hollywood cowboy songs. Like his fellow Canadian, Hank Snow, Wilf Carter was influenced by Jimmie Rodgers, but his early experiences as a cowboy in western Canada led Wilf to carve a unique niche in the history of country music.
